The Chicago Loop Synagogue |
(312) 346-7370
| The Chicago Loop Synagogue, 16 S. Clark St., (312) 346-7370, is a unique institution. Originally founded in 1929 to serve the religious needs of those whose professional or business activities were in Chicago’s downtown business district (known as the “Loop”), it has grown to become the city’s central synagogue. By providing a convenient place for daily worship, the Synagogue makes it possible for men and women from all parts of the city and suburbs to make congregational prayer a regular part of the business day as well as for mourners to recite the Kaddish prayers. While the form of worship in the Synagogue is Traditional, all Jews whatever their background or religious affiliation are made welcome at its services. The Synagogue also serves as a place of worship for Jewish visitors to Chicago, some of whom are attending professional or trade association conventions and meetings in the downtown area. Recently, the construction of high-rise apartment buildings in and near the Loop has provided a residential congregation for whom the Loop Synagogue is the major religious affiliation. For these families, the Synagogue provides the customary services and facilities of any local congregation. There are daily services morning, afternoon and evening. Call for the service schedule. |
| As Chicago’s oldest established congregation, First United Methodist Church is located in the historic and beautiful Chicago Temple building in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant and energetic downtown “loop”. It has a long and interesting history and is home to a dynamic and truly diverse congregation made up of people of all ages, from the city and suburbs, single, married, with and without children, old, young, and of many races and varied native languages.. We welcome all people to the life of this congregation and believe that we are all in need of God’s love and grace and that God, through Jesus Christ, intends the church to be a community that incarnates love, grace and justice for all people. Holding true to that belief, we welcome and encourage all persons, including persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities, in every aspect of our Christian life together. Our mission is to spread the Good News, bear witness to god’s love through our actions, bear the fruit of our faith in our actions, and humbly enter into dialog with other people about the meaning of following Christ today. Each week the congregation gathers together in worship, fellowship opportunities and classes to try to make meaning of life in the light of faith and to reaffirm love by each other and by God. Worship times: Saturdays at 5:00 pm, Dixon Chapel, 2nd floor; Sundays at 8:30 and 11:00 am in the Sanctuary. Nursery care available. Discounted parking at 172 W. Madison. Loop |
